Frank Zane, from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, started out wanting to be a teacher. He studied education, and later pursued a degree in psychology, and has a Master's in Experimental Psychology. Nevertheless, he is a three-time Mr Olympia winner, during which the nature of the competition changed as a higher emphasis was placed on aesthetics over mass, as was the norm prior to Zane's triplet of wins. He the thinnest waistline of a Mr Olympia champion, and is one of only three people to beat Arnold Schwarzenegger in a bodybuilding contest. Zane is also one of only a handful of Mr Olympias under 200 pounds.
His nickname was "The Chemist" because of his education, and also because he ate, by his own admission, tons of supplements. Nowadays, he works on contract for publicity, and gives personal weight lifting lessons. |
